The seaside resort of Sidmouth is nestled in the Sid Valley in East Devon. It boasts a quite regal past with the Duke of Kent retiring here in 1820 followed by the upper classes whose buildings are still in evidence today with over five hundred listed buildings.

Sidmouth Esplanade looks over the gravelly beach below although the best beach for bathing is at Jacob’s ladder west of the centre backed by red cliffs and overlooked by lush gardens.

The Sidmouth Museum is in the Sid Vale Heritage Centre in Church Street and has displays of Victoriana, lace and Regency Prints, there are also walking tours around the town that leave from here.
There are great walks along the coastal path around Sidmouth with lots of birdlife to be spotted along the cliffs and secluded bays for swimming and sunbathing.
The Sidmouth Folk Week takes place at the beginning of August and provides a diverse range of musicians, excellent setting and eclectic atmosphere.
