The wide Goodrington Sands is a popular place for sunbathing or a swim backed by a low sea wall and long strip of park.

Paignton Zoo is probably its most famous attraction with 75 acres divided into savannah, forest, wetland and desert zones and an ongoing conservation programme.

On the outskirts of Paignton is Oldway Mansion built by the US sewing machine tycoon Isaac Merritt Singer the house is surrounded by an Italian garden and there are several examples of early Singer sewing machines on display.

The Paignton and Dartmouth Steam Railway is a pleasant way to see the countryside as it runs to Goodrington Sands before veering inland alongside the Dart Estuary.
