Bideford Town Guide

 

Bideford was one of the UK's major ports between late 15th century to early 18th century and you can still see this history by some of the original grand merchant houses. The Bideford Long Bridge spans the river Torridge, the bridge was built in stone in 1535. During its history it has be built and rebuilt using different materials and was once the longest bridge in Britain. The bridge is famous for having 24 arches that are all a different size.

If you enjoy seeing in the New Year in style then Bideford is the place to be, with around 20,000 people taking to the pubs and streets in fancy dress it will certainly be a night to remember. During the summer holidays a week long folk festival can be enjoyed with song, music, dance and workshops providing a fantastic atmosphere.
