Torquay lies south of the Teign estuary and commands great views over the whole of Tor Bay from its hills and seafront which have Palm trees planted giving it a Mediterranean feel.

The area of coast here is known as the English Riviera due to its sheltered location and clement weather you will also find a host of activities including waterskiing, sailing and surfing at the coves and beaches which are often accessible by picturesque coastal walks.
You are presented with a host of different boat trips from the marina at the lively Old Harbour from pleasure trips to fishing and wildlife trips and evening cruises. Limestone cliffs separate the Old Harbour from the main beach, Abbey Sands, which takes its name from Torre Abbey the town's most noteworthy historic buildings.

The Torquay Museum is a little way uphill from the harbour and has a variety of miscellaneous collections relating to the area as well as the Agatha Christie Gallery which explores the life and times of the crime writer who was born and raised in Torquay.
Another interesting excursion is to Kents Cavern a cave system excavated in the nineteenth century showing signs of human habitation going back 700,000 years. There is a lively nightlife scene with lots of pubs and clubs as well as fine restaurants serving locally caught fish.
